Privacy policy

Family Calendar is a private household calendar and chore app. This policy describes the information used by this instance of Family Calendar and the choices available to household members.
Information we access and store
- Parent sign-in: Google provides a verified email address and an account identifier. These are used to recognize invited parents and manage access. Browser cookies maintain sign-in and protect account setup and forms.
- Google Calendar: When you connect a calendar account, the app stores an account identifier, email label, granted permissions and an encrypted refresh token. It discovers calendar names, identifiers, colors and access permissions so you can choose calendars. Event identifiers, titles, dates, times and locations are cached for calendars used by the board.
- iCloud calendars: If connected, the app stores an account label and encrypted app-specific credentials, discovers calendars and caches event details for the calendars used by the board.
- Household information: The app stores children’s display names, chores, assignments and completion history, parent access records, and any event details you submit for creation.
How information is used
Google account and calendar information is used to sign in invited parents, discover calendars, display the household agenda and, when separately authorized, create events in the selected shared Google calendar. Personal calendars are display-only in this app.
Chore information is used to show assignments and completion history. Parents who enable morning email alerts receive reports of unfinished chores. These reports contain children’s names and chore titles, without calendar details.
Google user data is not sold, used for advertising or used to train AI models. Its use is limited to providing these household features.
Family Calendar’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Who can see information
Selected calendar details and chore information are visible to anyone who can see the household display or access its private board link. Invited parents can manage household information. Keep board and invitation links private.
The application and database are hosted on Fly.io. Google processes sign-in, Google Calendar requests and optional Gmail email delivery. Apple processes iCloud calendar requests when connected. Email alerts are sent to the parent’s configured address through Gmail. The household administrator can access the server and stored data to operate and support the app.
Storage and retention
Calendar credentials are encrypted before being stored in the server database. Account, household and chore records remain until the household administrator removes them. Calendar event caches use a rolling display window. Pending event-save records may be retained to prevent duplicate events.
Database backups can contain earlier copies of stored information. Removing information from the active database does not immediately remove it from existing backups. A browser may retain board information for up to one hour for offline display. An unresolved event draft may remain in its browser tab until it is resolved or the tab is closed.
The app does not automatically erase all personal data when a calendar is disconnected or a parent is removed. Ask the household administrator to delete remaining account records, chore history and applicable backup copies. Operational access and error records may be retained to maintain the service.
Your choices and deletion requests
Choose which calendars appear in calendar settings. Use Disconnect to remove a connection’s stored credential and calendar selections. Cached events are removed when no other connected account provides access to them. Disconnecting a calendar does not delete events at Google or Apple, remove parent access or erase all account metadata and backups.
You can also revoke the app’s access in your Google Account settings, or revoke an iCloud app-specific password with Apple. Parents can sign out or disable their own chore email alerts. Removing a parent’s access revokes that parent’s sessions.
For questions, access changes or deletion of retained account and household information, contact the household administrator who invited you. The administrator handles removal from the database and applicable backups.
